Anglican Church

The Anglican Church in Via San Michele, a fine example of neoclassical architecture, was built after Emperor Francis I of Habsburg issued a special decree in 1821, which allowed British residents in Trieste to form a community.

Normally, the location of a church determines the area in which a community resides, while its size reflects the size of the community.

The Anglican church in Trieste is small, an indication that the British community was not very large, but it was certainly important enough to have its own church.

Often, British residences were villas, famous in the city not just for their elegant architecture, but also for the beauty of their gardens, extremely well kept and with exotic plants.

On ScopriTrieste you can follow a unique itinerary and see the villas still visible today!
