A new itinerary of the Great War in the area of Contovello, in the well-known and popular wood extending parallel to the Vicentina

The starting point for the visit is a short walk from the parking lot of the Mount Grisa Sanctuary, which can be easily reached by car or bus.

After a few meters on the Robert Baden-Powell paved road, we meet on the right the first totem on which is engraved a QR-CODE that allows downloading the park's in-depth information sheet. Next are 5 stations, each marked by a totem from which it is possible to download the station-specific descriptive card.

A track through the vegetation (unnumbered path) leads in a few minutes to STATION 1, the first fortified station in the park's trench. Continuing along the unnumbered trail we again enter denser vegetation and then skirt the trench and arrive at STATION 2, the second fortified post in the park trench.

Still following after about 400 meters we turn left and ascending we reach a wide forest road, turn right in the direction of Trieste and meet the next two stations, STATION 3 and STATION 4. We continue for a few more meters to a crossroads, turn left and meet the CAI 12 trail a few steps away, turn left again on the latter and arrive at the last station in the park, STATION 5, where we meet the fortified post in the widest trench in the park.
It is the highest point, an ideal spot for an observatory, is Mount Gurca or Mount Contovello (Kontovelski hrib).  From here we continue downhill along CAI path 12, arrive at the Robert Baden-Powell paved road, turn left and reach the starting point.

A few kilometers away in Prosecco in the Bosco Fornace another trail dedicated to the Great War, 97 the Park of the military training camp of the 97th I.R. regiment.

STATION 1, Stronghold in the trench

At STATION 1 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench that first has a simple communication function, deepens and splits into two levels, one lower for the trench walk, and one upper for the fire step, hence defining a fortified position.

At STATION 2 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench that has reached significant depth, resizes once more forming another well-fortified corner, again arranged on two levels, one lower for the trench walk, and one upper for the fire step.

40 - STATION 3, Trench walks and gate

At STATION 3 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench stretch is completely out of the ground and is delimited by a 1.30 m high protective wall and a furrow of some ten centimetres below natural level.
The section is marked by the presence of a clearly recognizable access gate, defended by a series of embrasures. Looking towards the sea on the right, the trench rises to the crest while on the left starts to lead downwards to STATION 4.

40 - STATION 4, Stronghold in the trench

At STATION 4 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench markedly descends from the hill, and is cut off by the recently made forest road. Beyond the road, in the collective property of Barcola, the trench continues to lead downwards less decisively until it reaches the Napoleonica-Vicentina Road, running parallel to it, up to the Obelisk.

40 - STATION 5, Stronghold in the trench

At STATION 5 of the Coastland Trench Park there is the section of the trench with the highest altitude in the park. That is the Monte Gurca (371 m a.s.l.).

A few meters from the crest, in the direction of the sea, a wide, deep, well-fortified and well-recognized from the pathway starts.
The short distance from the crest is intended to make the calculation of the trajectory of the cannon difficult from the sea.
This section boosts today, as in the past, the best view on the gulf and is an ideal location for an observation post.
