The route begins in the San Giacomo district, slowly climbs up to the Val Rosandra Nature Reserve and ends in Draga Sant'Elia. The path is dedicated to Giordano Cottur of Trieste (1914-2006), a historic figure in cycling who came third three times in the Giro d'Italia behind Coppi and Bartali and won a stage of the race in Trieste in 1947. 

The section from San Giacomo to Altura is paved, while the stretch from Altura to Draga Sant'Elia is unpaved. The path has numerous intersections, making it possible to start at various points. It offers the opportunity to admire beautiful views, bucolic landscapes, orchards, woods, cliffs and the Karst plateau in all of its forms. 

After leaving the city, you arrive at the Strada di Fiume near Villa Sartorio, (entrance on Via Modiano 5) which you can visit to admire centuries-old trees like the Aleppo pines. Further ahead, following the ridge alongside Mount Stena, a view overlooking the Rosandra Valley opens to reveal its stunning wild beauty - the Comici memorial stone, the scree, the limestone slabs and the Church of Stena Maria in Siaris. The path continues to climb, skirting around Mount Stena, and arrives in Draga Sant'Elia, where there is a fountain on the paved road. 

By taking the Salamandra trail, you can visit one of the numerous ice-houses (jazera) and ponds on the Karst plateau. If you turn to the right and follow the paved road at the end of the walking/cycling path, you come to Draga Station.
