Giovanni Scaramangà was advisor to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and later its President, a position he held throughout the Great War, at the end of which the Italian Government appointed him Royal Commissioner of the Chamber of Commerce.
After the war, Scaramangà participated in all the city's principal activities and served on the boards of a various bodies, including banks, insurance companies, shipping companies, commercial companies, sports clubs and industrial concerns. At the end of World War Two he became President of Lloyd Triestino and had to cope with all the problems arising from the destruction suffered by the company during the conflict.
After retiring from entrepreneurial activities in 1947 he devoted himself passionately to cultural activities and held prominent positions, presiding over the curation of the Revoltella Civic Museum and serving as a member of the Consultative Commission of the Civic Library.
