The spirit of the Barcolana
To celebrate 46 years of the regatta, the Barcolana organisation had a new wooden sailing boat constructed in just two weeks, and commissioned an inspiring video recording the particulars, emotions and feelings of people who feel drawn in some way to sailing boats, the sea and Trieste.
In this video by Pablo Apiolazza, the Argentine filmmaker who came to live in Trieste, Paolo Rumiz recounts the spirit of the Barcolana and the birth of the small boat "Spigola", built in homage to the seafaring tradition in the Upper Adriatic, recalling its origins and the deep, indissoluble link with the sea that has always been the moving spirit of Trieste.

The wooden boat was built by the Alto Adriatico di Monfalcone shipyard and master carpenter Mario Mallardi, a true artist.
