40 - The Coastland trench park in Contovello
A new itinerary of the Great War in the area of Contovello, in the well-known and popular wood extending parallel to the Vicentina
Station 1
At STATION 1 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench that first has a simple communication function, deepens and splits into two levels, one lower for the trench walk, and one upper for the fire step, hence defining a fortified position.

Station 2
At STATION 2 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench that has reached significant depth, resizes once more forming another well-fortified corner, again arranged on two levels, one lower for the trench walk, and one upper for the fire step.

Station 3
At STATION 3 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench stretch is completely out of the ground and is delimited by a 1.30 m high protective wall and a furrow of some ten centimetres below natural level.
The section is marked by the presence of a clearly recognizable access gate, defended by a series of embrasures. Looking towards the sea on the right, the trench rises to the crest while on the left starts to lead downwards to STATION 4.

Station 4
At STATION 4 of the Coastland Trench Park the trench markedly descends from the hill, and is cut off by the recently made forest road. Beyond the road, in the collective property of Barcola, the trench continues to lead downwards less decisively until it reaches the Napoleonica-Vicentina Road, running parallel to it, up to the Obelisk.

Station 5
At STATION 5 of the Coastland Trench Park there is the section of the trench with the highest altitude in the park. That is the Monte Gurca (371 m a.s.l.).
A few meters from the crest, in the direction of the sea, a wide, deep, well-fortified and well-recognized from the pathway starts.
The short distance from the crest is intended to make the calculation of the trajectory of the cannon difficult from the sea.
This section boosts today, as in the past, the best view on the gulf and is an ideal location for an observation post.
